Proposed Golfshake Match Play Series 2011

By: Adam Smith | Tue 03 Aug 2010

INTRO

Hello and welcome to the inaugural Golfshake Match Play Series. A series which will in the end decide who is the best Match Play pairing on Golfshake.

Ran between February - September 2011 pairs will compete in 4 REGIONAL LEAGUE MATCHES during this period before the winners continue through to the National final.

FORMAT

FOURBALL BETTER BALL

Matchplay format same as North Vs South

Depending on how many teams are interested, will decide on what league you will enter. When it comes to registering your team the information we need from you is:

  • Pairings (Both players names and handicaps)
  • Team name (Keep it clean)
  • League you will want to be entered into
  • Your *HOME course

In deciding the leagues we have done it the fairest way and we are going by region, so please decide whether you want to be in the NORTH, CENTRAL or SOUTH groups.

Again depending on how many teams we get that are interested will determine how many teams and how many leagues there are.

You are all playing for a place in FINALS WEEKEND to be held at aTBC

8 TEAMS will qualify for FINALS WEEKEND.

RULES

As I said earlier you will play 4 matches, that's whether you have 10 teams in your league or you have 5 it will not matter. If you have 10, then we will draw who plays who in that league.

Your *Home course is where you will play 2 of your 4 matches, so it works out fairly that you will travel to 2 games and have 2 home games. Your home course can change if you want it to.

Your pair are responsible for arranging your match. All we need is the score which has to be verified by both teams before we put it into the league tables.

This is where it gets quite complicated (if I haven't lost you already)

FOR EXAMPLE: and this is from an idealistic point of view......

If 40 teams enter:

  • 10 from the NORTH (2 groups of 5)
  • 20 from CENTRAL    (4 groups of 5)
  • 10 from SOUTH       (2 groups of 5)

The Top team from each group would qualify for FINALS WEEKEND.

SCORING

How are you sorting out how to finish top?

3 points for a win, 1 point for a halve and 0 points for a loss.

How would you decide if it's a tie at the top?

First points, if level after that then hole difference, then holes won, then score in the match against the team(s) you are tied with then its down to a coin toss. If you are in a league with more than 5 teams then a play-off maybe played if you haven't played the team you are tied with.

So in the table below, Team 1 beat Team 5 4&2, they won 8 holes, lost 4 and halved 4. So their HOLE DIFFERENCE would be +4.

Team 2 and Team 3 halved their match, winning 5 holes each, therefore being level on HOLE DIFFERENCE and both getting a point each.

Team 5 yet to play.

Central League 1A PLYD WON HLVD LOST HW HL HD PNTS
Team 1 1 1 0 0 8 4 +4 3
Team 2 1 0 1 0 5 5 0 1
Team 3 1 0 1 0 5 5 0 1
Team 4 1 0 0 1 4 8 -4 0
Team 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

FORFIT MATCH: Automatic 3 points and 5 holes won.

FINALS WEEKEND

8 Teams.

QUARTER FINAL: 4 matches played over 18 holes on Saturday

SEMI-FINAL: 2 matches played over 18 holes Sunday morning

FINAL: 1 Match played over 18 holes Sunday afternoon.
